Happy Birthday, Annie! And a Giveaway!

Sometimes when I hug Annie, I feel like a little girl!
pic sent to me from my friend, Lucy!

One year ago tonight, at 10 minutes before midnight,
Little Miss Annie was born!

Miss D was such a proud Mama.
So was I!

After months and months of worry,
Annie
made her way into the world,
as a confident little foal!

After the birth, Miss D licked her clean.
Showing her love and bonding with her new babe.

Annie lay upon the straw in the fetal position
that she had been in for so many months.

She rolled over, and stretched her little body
out of the position it had been in for so long!

Looking at these long, long, legs~
I bet she was thinking,
"What do I do with these?"

Her little ribs poked out,
but she quickly filled out in just a week!

She kept snoozing on and off.
Little cat naps to make up for all the energy
she used up
coming into the
World.

And then, at one hour old, she stood up!
No stumbling, weaving, or falling down.
And no help from us...
She
stood
up.
And walked over to Miss D
and began to nurse!

She nursed with a ferocious appetite!
She slurped, suckled, and swallowed.
Over and over!
It was so precious to listen to her.

Miss D couldn't keep her eyes open. She was so very tired!
I would have been too! Pregnant for almost 12 months and gave birth to a 75lb. babe!

After using up all her energy to stand,
walk a few steps,
and nurse,
she lay back down, in the soft straw, and slept.
Miss D slept also.

"What is all this Mama?"   "Well, Precious, this is Your World!"

Looking at the world
for the very first
time!

Annie soon found out what those long legs were for!

After taking a jaunt around the pasture, Annie decided to nurse.
While Miss D kept an eye out for predators!

Such deep love,

for a Mama and her babe.....

For a few months we just called the new babe,
"The Little One"
Every name we had tossed around before she was born
got tossed out when she made her entrance!

And finally we decided on
Andalucia.
It was such a mouthful for such a little girl,
we nicknamed her
Annie!

Sometimes I forget she is also
Andalucia.
 My sweet friend Andrea
from
Rural Revival
almost always refers to Annie as Andalucia!
I think this is so sweet :)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Today was a special day.
I did a lot of thinking about the last year.
How time flew~

I gave Annie extra hugs this morning when I fed her breakfast.
She gave me "sloppy oatmeal kisses" all over my face.
And in my hair!

I am so blessed to be able to care for such wonderful creatures.

And so blessed to have this beautiful filly named
Annie
in my life!
I hope she knows how much I love her.
I think she might....

Is this adorable or what?!

My awesome parents sent Annie a
"Happy Birthday, One Year Old"
card!
And five bucks :)
So Little Miss Annie can go to the store
and pick out a box of sugar cubes!
Well, they are her Grandparents...

I decorated her stall door for the
Big Day!

And I did her forelock in a
pretty princess frou-frou
up-do!
(you all know by now how silly
I am when it comes to the "kids")

Jane had a tramatic horseback riding accident last June.
We are so grateful to have her still with us.
Yes. It was that bad...

Our good friend, Jane, came to wish
Annie a Happy Birthday!
She brought one of Annie's fave treats~
Popsicles!
Annie loves all the flavors except
Lime.
She squints her eyes and makes funny faces!

Annie got to hear the
"Happy Birthday"
song
for the zillonth time!
Hey, you only turn
ONE
once!

Cadence, Allure, Allegra,
and of course
Miss D
all had Popsicles
in honor of Annie's
big day.

Princess Allegra was sweet to Annie all day!
They even shared a snack of hay!
(I did, however, have to promise Allegra
to do her forelock just like Annie's.
On Saturday! oy.)

By the end of the day, Annie was all tuckered out.
She got cozy in her bed of straw.

And drifted off,
dreaming sweet filly dreams.

Dreams of running in her pasture,
dreams of her Mama who is also her best friend,
dreams of her barn family,
and dreams of knowing
she will always be cared for
and
loved beyond her wildest dreams!

Good and wonderful dreams
that every little filly should get
to dream....

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I truely hope you have enjoyed following
the first year
of
Annie.
I have so loved sharing her story.
And there is so much more to come in the next year!

Because everyone has been so sweet and wonderful,
Annie and I
are having a
Giveaway!!!

It is almost
"that time of year"
Because Annie loves Christmas,
we thought we would help
a lucky giveaway winner
get in the
Holiday

So nice to meet another Tennessean on here. I will sure look forward to keeping up with you.

So funny, but I heard someone tonight say they were from your neck of the woods. I have only heard of this place twice and both were today. Is that crazy or what?

God bless you!

I just want to wish sweet Annie Happy Birthday! She and her mama are just beautiful.

I was fortunate enough to watch the birthing of a foal one time. How strong and brave animals are - not weak and crying like us.

I can hear the love and dedication in your words and am glad your horses are safe with you. So many acquire and then sell - who knows how they end up.

Sweet dreams, little Annie. You and your family are lucky to be where you are!

Happy Birthday Annie! Donna sent me over and I am glad she did. We used to raise Morgan horses in our youth. The first foal that was born was more exciting to my hubby than when he became a Dad-ha! There is nothing more beautiful than a new foal! Great post!
